Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a vacation should feel exciting not overwhelming. At Great Plains Travel, I take the stress out of the process and replace it with a seamless, personalized experience from start to finish.
No two trips are the same. Your itinerary is carefully designed around your preferences, travel style, and goals whether it’s a bucket-list adventure, a luxury escape, or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
Instead of spending hours researching options, comparing reviews, and second-guessing decisions, you’ll have an expert guiding you every step of the way.
Through trusted industry relationships, I’m able to offer added value like upgrades, resort credits, and exclusive amenities often at the same price you’ll find online.
From passports and entry requirements to destination insights and travel tips, you’ll be fully prepared before you go no surprises, no guesswork.
Travel doesn’t always go as planned and that’s where I come in. You’ll have support before, during, and after your trip, so you’re never navigating issues alone.
When you book with Great Plains Travel, you’re supporting a local, independently owned business. Travel is already priced to include a commission working with me means that support goes toward personalized service, real relationships, and a business rooted in your community.
This isn’t just about booking a tripit’s about creating a smooth, elevated experience from the moment you start planning to the moment you return home.

I provide personalized planning, expert recommendations, and ongoing support before, during, and after your trip. Instead of spending hours researching, you get a seamless, well-planned experience backed by industry knowledge and trusted supplier relationships.
-
Sometimes, but not always in the way people expect. While many prices are the same as what you see online, travel advisors often have access to exclusive perks, upgrades, added amenities, and special promotions that aren’t available to the public. More importantly, you’re getting expert guidance, time savings, and support throughout your trip. So the overall value is often much higher than booking on your own.
Every vacation already has commission built into it, so when you book with Great Plains Travel, you’re supporting a local small business and a real person who is personally invested in your trip rather than a large corporation.
-
Most trips require a deposit to secure your reservation, with the remaining balance due closer to your departure date. Payment schedules vary by supplier.

At Great Plains Travel, we always recommend protecting your investment to cover unexpected issues such as:
• Trip cancellations
• Medical emergencies
• Emergency medical evacuation
• Missed connections
• Travel delays
• Lost or delayed baggageBecause cruises and international travel involve multiple moving parts (flights, transfers, hotels, excursions, and strict cancellation policies). Travel insurance is highly recommended.
What’s the difference between Travel Insurance and Travel Protection?
Many travelers add travel protection to their vacation without fully understanding what it actually includes only to find out later that it doesn’t help when they need it most. Knowing exactly what your plan covers is essential. Most travel protection plans are limited to basic trip cancellation and may only reimburse you in the form of future travel credit rather than a cash refund. In many cases, coverage is tied specifically to that supplier, which can leave gaps if something happens outside of your trip itself. This is why working with a travel advisor matters. I help my clients choose comprehensive travel insurance that provides broader protection so you’re covered before, during, and after your trip.
Travel Insurance
While the terms are often used interchangeably, there is an important distinction:
Travel Insurance is typically purchased through a third-party insurance provider. It often includes:
Comprehensive medical coverage
Emergency evacuation
Broader cancellation coverage
Coverage for events before and during travel
Travel Protection
Travel Protection is usually offered by a cruise line, tour company, or vacation supplier. It may include:
Cancellation flexibility or future travel credits
Limited medical coverage
Supplier-specific benefits
-
U.S. citizens sailing on a cruise that departs from and returns to the same U.S. port may travel with:
A certified U.S. birth certificate
A government-issued photo ID
While passports are not legally required for most closed-loop sailings, they are strongly recommended.
If an emergency requires you to fly home from a foreign port, a passport will be required for re-entry into the United States.
We will always advise you on documentation requirements based on your specific itinerary.
-
Beginning May 7, 2025, travelers flying domestically within the United States must have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification.
-
You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date (many countries require this). You should have at least 1–2 blank pages. Your name must match your flight exactly.
Some countries require a visa in advance, others offer visa on arrival. Requirements vary based on your citizenship and length and purpose of travel.
Some countries have vaccine requirements.
Some countries require an entry form or digital arrival declaration to be completed before or upon arrival.
